We all know traveling with an infant is pretty hard, especially by yourself, on an airplane to another state. When you decide to travel with an infant there are certain things you need to consider. You need to pack all your baby items (such as diapers, wipes, extra clothes, etc.) in your diaper bag. That is the essential stuff, of course. You also need to think about how you are going to carry the baby, as in hold him/her or let the baby have its own seat. Also, there’s the issue of how do you ask for help when you need it, and who exactly do you ask? Do not forget how to keep your sanity, either! These are all very important things to consider when you are traveling alone with a baby.
So, you might ask yourself, in what order do I go through these procedures to get ready? Well, here they are:
1. The most important thing to consider is what you pack in your diaper bag to carry onto the plane. Well for one thing you need enough diapers to get you through the trip to wherever you are going. Having more than enough diapers is always a plus. Other things to consider are extra clothes, toys, blankets, and of course bottles or food if needed.
2. The next thing to consider is how are you going to carry the baby. There are multitudes of different ways you can carry your infant. Of course this is depending upon if you are going to let the baby have its own seat on the plane or not. If you are going to share a seat with your infant, then the best thing to have is a front carrier. It allows you to hold the baby and have your hands free to carry any luggage or carry ons. On the other hand, if you are going to have another seat for the baby, then you can bring the car seat for the baby to sit in and you have your hands free.
3. If you should ever need help with your infant, ask someone sitting next to you or a flight attendant. Whatever you do, do not let yourself get stuck in a situation where you do not want to ask for help. Do not be afraid to ask other people for help. Most are very willing to help you. Be direct in your questions for help, don’t be shy. A lot of people understand what it is like to travel alone with an infant.
4. Lastly, do not forget to keep your sanity! As long as you are cool, calm and collective things will run smoothly, but as soon as you begin to get frustrated or angry then your plans will go out the window. If you keep it calm, then your flight will go smoothly. As in the last step, if you start to get frustrated, just ask for help. It will calm your nerves tremendously.
These are all the things you need to consider when traveling with an infant. Deciding what to pack, how to carry the infant, and how ask for help are the basics for traveling on an airplane.
